Fleetwood Transport Festival
Lawrence Weetman - Event Contact.
The committee of the Fleetwood Transport Festival (known locally as "Tram Sunday") cordially invite you, your
members and, if you wish your club along with all of your vehicles to attend the 2008 event which will be held
on 20th July, 2008 (3rd Sunday of July each year).
Our event, now entering its 24th year, is particularly unique as it is set in the historic town centre roads
rather than on a muddy field. Fleetwood is a seaside location very close to Blackpool, Lancashire, and the event
not only attracts enthusiasts but a 30,000-strong, wide variety of visitors including young families - introducing
them to the joys that classic vehicles can bring. We have a HUGE number of trade stands at the event which runs
from 10am until 4pm. The event currently attracts around 60 buses, 180 cars, 20-30 motorbikes and a wide variety
of other specialist and exciting vehicles, however we would like your help with building on this figure!!
Attendance as an exhibitor or a visitor is entirely FREE. All exhibitors are presented with a commemorative plaque.
Please contact me for entry forms or if you have any questions.

The Torbay Old Wheels Car Club
Julian Smith - Event Contact.
The Torbay Old Wheels Car Club has for some ten years organised an annual rally on Paignton seafront in conjunction
with the Torbay Carnival Committee. Last year's event attracted a full entry of 400 vehicles and raised £2,500 for
the nominated charities of Torbay Carnival.
This year's event on 27 July celebrates the 100th anniversary of Torbay Carnival. To recognise this milestone our
Club would like to invite a small number of feature exhibits of Edwardian & veteran vehicles built in 1908 and
before. We would be most grateful for any assistance you may be able to offer in attracting enquiries from any of
your members who may be interested in supporting this very popular and enjoyable event.

Aviation Centenary Celebrations Eastchurch
Aviation enthusiasts and others have advised us that the events planned for 2009 at Eastchurch to celebrate the
Centenary of British Aviation on Sheppey will arouse considerable national interest.
To accommodate expected numbers in region of 10,000 over the weekend, the use of a 35-acre site on which to hold
the events, and for camping, together with adjacent parking facilities has been obtained just outside Eastchurch,
at Parsonage Farm, by courtesy of Mr. & Mrs P.Taylor.
We are also presently in talks with supporting infrastructure providers.
As outlined in the ‘Flyers’ the theme of the weekend will be 100 years of British Aviation with particular reference
to the part Sheppey played in aviation from 1909 up to closure of Eastchurch aerodrome in the late 1940’s.
Displays of up to 25 vintage aircraft, some static, others flying from the adjoining airstrip are being arranged.
An air display organiser has been appointed to arrange a flying display of about 12 aircraft on the Sunday. The
display will then extend to cover Leysdown (the original home of flying on Sheppey) and Warden.
The following organisations have been contacted and agree to attend; about 50 Edwardian/Vintage vehicles from the
Vintage Austin Register (who celebrated their Centenary in 2005), The Steam Car Club of GB (these include VCC
vehicles), Swale Vehicle Enthusiasts Club (up to immediate post WW2), Vintage motorcycles, Invicta Military
Preservation Society and the Big Fish Theatre Trust.
Other aviation-orientated organisations have indicated an interest and we hope that they will also be able to attend
As a permanent ‘landmark’ to record the Centenary, planning is underway to produce a 1/3rd size outline metal aircraft
(1909 vintage) and a full size chalk (or similar) outline to be placed on the By-Pass at Eastchurch with which the local
schoolchildren can be involved. It is intended that these will be ‘unveiled’ a week or so before the main events.

All our vehicle matters are now being dealt with by Jim Stringer

He lives locally and can be contacted via e-mail:

The Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm have declared 2009 as their centenary. As Eastchurch was the founding station of
the R.N.A.S. they will be holding a large flypast of FAA aircraft at Eastchurch on the Friday 24th July 09. As
most of our infrastructure will have to be in place by then (car parking, reception facilities, event field etc)
any members who can come earlier will have a grandstand seat.
